The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the use of additional Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program funds that are intended to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the corona virus pandemic.
New Kensington will receive an allocation of approximately $193,732 in FY 2020 CDBG funds from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. CARES ACT CDBG must also be used to meet a national objective such that at least 70% of the funds must be used to benefit low- and moderate-income persons. The deadline for submission of the CARES Act CDBG Program application to Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) is July 28, 2020.
Eligible CDBG projects that address the pandemic will be considered. Such activities may include public services, economic development, retrofitting a facility to isolate persons who are Covid positive and other proactive measures outlined in a HUD memo that is available on the Redevelopment Authority of New Kensington website: https://www.newkenredevelopment.org/
All interested citizens are encouraged to participate and will be offered the opportunity to give oral testimony at the Public Hearing and/or to present written comments concerning the needs of the City of New Kensington and the use of CARES Act CDBG funds.
